PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIABeginning its life at the Queen Victoria Gaslight Night Market in the summer of 2002/2003, it wasn’t until April 2004 that the CBD was treated to Sataybar’s tempting fare. First opening the doors at the prime location on the corner of Flinders Lane and Custom House Lane, this led to a sister restaurant being opened on yet another favourite Melbourne laneway, Manchester Lane. The decor in both remains the same – simple and minimalist with the use of polished timber, padded stools and wooden benches, and low hanging Asian inspired light covers.
As the name suggests, Sataybar specialises in morsels of food cooked on skewers. Striving to provide healthy and nutritious food and utilising the best quality produce they can source, skewers of chicken breast, lean cuts of meat, prawn, and non genetically modified tofu are cooked on the chargrill, drizzled with a spicy peanut sauce that is Grandmother’s secret recipe, and then served on a bed of white rice with a side of salad. Large and small meal packages are offered at ridiculously affordable prices, with cake and sweet offerings an absolute must. Non alcoholic beverages are offered as well as Bintang beer, available Friday nights in the Manchester Lane branch which is open until 8pm.
