Try as I might I can't think of a single Melbourne restaurant that offers half-price breakfasts on a weekend. Save for Red Orange that is. This South Yarra restaurant on eclectic Commercial Road, a stones throw from hip and happening Chapel Street, caters well to its universal crowd with a modern Australian fusion menu, varied portion sizes with snack type options, a selection of dining areas including an outdoor courtyard, and of course, half-price breakfasts on weekends.
Start your Saturday or Sunday with the Red Orange big breaky comprising two eggs any way with bacon, sausage, mushroom, tomato and baked beans on toasted ciabatta, or the creamy apple risotto with biscotti biscuits, fresh mint, cinnamon and pomegranate syrup drizzle. For lunch try the steak sandwich of grilled tenderloin porterhouse with balsamic onions, fresh tomato, cucumber, lettuce and aioli on toasted ciabatta. For dinner start with an entree of sugar- and ginger-cured tuna carpaccio with radish and a dressing of maple and sherry, followed by the Red Orange game pie of the week. Finish with the Grand Marnier creme caramel with marzipan tulles. A concise and reasonably priced, predominantly Australian wine list is offered with almost all available by the glass.
