Inventive food, crowd-worthy events and a drinks menu to dream about makes Moored restaurant a fantastic destination for dinner, drinks or down time. Located in the vibrant Waterfront City Precinct of the Docklands, the large terrace takes advantage of the view and is comfortable even on cold nights (with the help of the gas heaters). In fact, with its warmth, Moored is a cosy haven to relax in throughout the winter.

Moored takes up stylish space alongside Kobe Jones in a large, modern complex on the Docklands foreshore. Moored is all stone, timber and glass with earthy slate floors, stone feature walls, timber beams and huge windows looking out on to the river and the cityscape. An expansive balcony is decked out with cane furniture adorned with a bright smattering of coloured cushions. Not only is the view magical from here, the balcony also provides a welcome escape from the thumping music inside the venue.

The food coming out of Moored's open plan kitchen is pleasing to the eye and the palate. The menu offers a spectrum of tapas dishes for entrees that have been divided into different sections for creatures from the sea and the pasture fields. We ordered the char grilled calamari with aioli but when it arrived at our table it was, in fact, pan-fried calamari on a rocket salad. The scallops with ginger crumb topping arrived exactly as ordered and were quite more-ish (pardon the pun). The lamb and pine-nut pastries were another standout. Most of the dishes here are designed to share among friends over a bottle of wine or a few cocktails.

A fusion of hip bar and chic restaurant, Moored at Docklands is designed to cater for your every need. Enjoy lunch or dinner in the Waterfront Room taking in the views of Bolte Bridge and the Melbourne cityscape while feasting on delicious dishes, or choose to sit at the chef's table for a completely different take on your dining experience. On Fridays and Saturdays you can groove the night away in the adjoining bar with drink specials, food platters and giveaways.

Chef Nigel Woodhead has created a modern Australian menu with a hint of Asian influence. From the absolute beginners selection choose the crispy pork belly, slow braised and served with a soft-shell crab and watercress salad, or the devilled whitebait: fresh whitebait dusted with cayenne and paprika flour, served with lime and chargrilled flat bread. Follow with a main of crispy-skinned salmon fillet, cured for four hours, served medium rare with cod brandade and a lemongrass and chive buerre blanc, or the grilled free-range chicken breast marinated in ginger garlic and served on a kimichi vegetable cake with a salted cucumber and shiitake relish. Finish with the five-spice coconut pannacotta served with a Berthanga sweet and sour pineapple wedge. The wine list of mostly Australian varieties also boasts a few select imports.
