Bistro Dom is a long, narrow lap pool of flavour and style with decor that is tickled with a delightful French touch. This restaurant offers a concise menu that lists around a dozen breakfast and lunch options apiece and chef, James Bodroghy, produces duck, chicken and steak specials daily.

Ben and Dominika Johnston opened the floor to ceiling glass doors of Bistro Dom in early 2007. It is a slender, elegant place for weekday lunches. Perch on wooden banquette seating and eye off the gilt-edged mirrors and ornate pendant lighting that contribute to the dining room’s panache. But don’t let its ambience convince you this eatery only suits those who wear them. While corporate types love Bistro Dom for its convenient elegance, Ben encourages a casual dining experience. All day breakfasts let you sneak in a Belgian waffle before work but if you stayed up past your bedtime the night before, slink in late for your egg fix. There is a Rolls Royce version of scrambled eggs which is served with smoked salmon and goats curd. Chorizo replaces ho-hum bangers on a plate with poached eggs and tomato compote.

The concise menu lists around a dozen breakfast and lunch options apiece and chef, James Bodroghy, produces duck, chicken and steak specials daily. Ben’s philosophy is to present classic dishes with simple, fresh flavours that work in harmony, resulting in a menu that changes every two to three months. Goats cheese souffle with caramelised onion and rocket salad impresses as does spiced lamb, which is tucked into brick pastry and accompanied by saffron chickpeas, fresh tomato and yoghurt dressing. Strolling into Bistro Dom for a glass of vino is a sensible idea. The wine list can only be described as Ben’s baby – he watches over it and changes it regularly. There are far worse things you could do than come here to share a bottle of By Farr Pinot Noir with a friend.
