PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAOpen just nine months, Zenobia Lebanese Restaurant has been raising eyebrows and filling bellies with gusto. The opulent sister restaurant of Leichhardt’s Zenobia, this North Strathfield eatery brings a touch of the exotic to the suburb. This is Lebanese fine dining at its best. Traditional meets contemporary in an open, light dining room, complete with imported decor and surprisingly decadent bathrooms. Named after the famous Queen Zenobia of ancient Palmyra, who personally led her troops and conquered much of the Middle East, Zenobia North Strathfield carries all of the extravagance of an Arabic palace. Custom-made chairs, shimmering chandeliers and imported trinkets create a grand dining room, complemented by belly dancers on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Located in North Strathfield’s Bakehouse Quarter, the lavish restaurant offers an equally indulgent menu. Start with an assorted selection of entrees, such as spicy sojouk sausages cooked with garlic and chilli, hand-rolled vine leaves stuffed with rice and tomato, or lamb sambusic pastry filled with minced lamb and pine nuts. Mains include a lip-smacking lamb shawarma, marinated in spices and served with a tahini sauce, a serve of barbecue king prawns, or a shredded chicken mansaf dotted with pine nuts and served on a bed of rice. In true Lebanese style, an assortment of accompaniments are available, or order a zesty side salad. Traditional sweets, or a tot of traditional coffee or mint tea, is a refreshing way to end the feast. Open Tuesday to Sunday for lunch, and seven days for dinner, Zenobia North Strathfield is well worth the trek from the city. Ideal for festive group dining, the restaurant offers BYO with no corkage or cakeage fees. Pop in for a truly unique dining experience.
