This intimate Indian restaurant enjoys harbour views, extending over the water of Lavender Bay to Luna Park, and is crowned by the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The small restaurant has tall ceilings and, while there are only a few window tables, the size of the dining room affords the majority of tables a view. For those who miss out a few carefully positioned mirrors capture the twinkle of the city in their reflection.
Restaurateur and owner Kailash Bhandary is a natural host. His restaurant features the best of many Indian standards, including a divine butter chicken, alongside lesser known and more traditional dishes from his native southern India. Try the Goan fish curry; the ling fillets are simmered in coconut milk and tempered with fresh curry leaves, mustard seeds and ajwain. The chicken Chennai is an authentic South Indian dish, the pepper-hot chicken curry is pan-cooked with fresh curry leaves, fennel seeds and crushed black pepper. Vegetarians are also well catered for, with traditional dishes such as the palak paaner on offer (homemade cottage cheese sauteed in butter with fresh English spinach, tempered with coarse spices). The restaurant offers BYO as well as a concise wine list.
