Altitude is the right word – a first class dining experience from the dizzy heights of the Shangri-La’s 36th floor overlooking a spectacular view of Sydney. Altitude was voted 'Best Restaurant 2005' by the Australian Hotels Assocation (NSW).

LOCATION
Situated on Level 36 of the Shangri-La Hotel in The Rocks.

PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIA
Altitude is a true diva – tall, elegant and absolutely stunning – though her mesmerising beauty makes it hard to get a fix on her personality. The vision from the Shangri-La’s 36th floor is a glittering panorama of Sydney Harbour, and the effusive service and elegant menu encourage the view that Altitude is a restaurant for very special occasions (and indeed they see about three wedding proposals a week), though it is quite busy even on a Monday night.

Altitude’s main man is Steven Krasicki, the talented chef responsible for introducing the seven course Epi-curious Menu to the restaurant (a culinary venture through dishes such as fricassee of blue claw yabby with veal sweetbreads and baby leeks). There are two a la carte menus (one of them vegetarian) with a distinctly European lilt, think roasted and braised Aurora lamb with caramelised garlic cloves and fondant potatoes or a modern entree of Sydney rock oysters with tongue-dazzling seaweed and cider sorbet. The sommelier will help you choose a wine from the 350-plus selection, 90 per cent of which are Australian or New Zealand wines. Altitude is truly a first class lady and deserves to be courted more by Sydney, and not just on special occasions.

Jennifer Miller, May 2007

DETAILS
The decor is sophisticated and contemporary. Diners enjoy the spectacular view through 5-metre floor-to-ceiling windows, which run along the entire length of the restaurant.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE
Chef Steven Krasicki has created an inspirational Modern Australian menu with European influences. In addition to a superb à-la-carte menu, Steven Krasicki has designed a seven course degustation or tasting menu to reflect the finest local and international flavours.
Altitude boasts an impressive wine list, managed by knowledgeable sommelier Tom Crosby. 90% of the wines from a list of over 350 are from Australia and New Zealand, and the remaining include some of the best and rare of Old World style, representing good value and a unique selection.

PRIVATE DINING ROOM
Altitude Restaurant’s oval-shaped, glass encased private dining room seats up to 16 guests and offers unsurpassed views from every angle. A sheer veil can be drawn around the room for added privacy and soft lighting radiates from under-lit flooring.
* Altitude has a wheelchair access.
