My suggestion for good seafood in Sydney would be The Codfather, a newly opened restaurant owned by Ross Godfrey (who owns the dreadfully successful Oscillate Wildly, with talented young Daniel Puskas in the kitchen). Beyond that, I like eating Scampi by Matt Moran at Aria, and scallops (with lemongrass and peanuts) at La Mint in Riley Street, East Sydney.

In Melbourne, right now I reckon Taxi Dining Room (Fed Square) has got it nailed on the incredible seafood front. The stunning way in which they compose their amazing Asian-influenced dishes constantly provides the best cullinary pleasures on my eating agenda. You can seriously close your eyes, point at the menu to order, and be absolutely guaranteed of an amazing taste sensation, no matter what comes out.

The best place to purchase fresh seafood is Curelli Seafood Markets in the Gosnells Railway Markets. Not only do they know their product you get fantastic service. They do their own homemade Pickled Octopus- it is amazing - well worth a taste. Domnic is the owner and he is always available to speak to his customers. The shop is always clean and never has that horrible fish smell you get in some seafood shops. Restaurant seafood - you can not go past Jo Jo's on the Jetty. Always cooked to perfection

In Sydney it has to be the Pier in rose bay and it is not all about seafood as the service is wonderful the menu with a lot of variety but due to the prices it is only for special occasions and worth every penny

In QLD on holidays; Allegria in Sunshine Beach. Menu is interesting and Seafood and fish combinations truly exquisite! Luckily Found the recipes for 2 of their meals; the scallop tartlets and the Orzo Moretan Bay Bug! But I live in Melbourne and our local fish shop in Malvern Central is always fresh and lots of local/domestic seafood! Love it

Best fresh seafood to buy in Brisbane is at Gambaro's at South Brisbane - it's always fresh, there's a lot of choice and the staff are very helpful. Another option is Raptis at Colmslie. Best Seafood restaurant in Brisbane by a mile is Brett's Wharf - lots of choices, and expertly cooked and presented. Morgans at Scarborough is also good, but futher to get home. If you like fish and chips then a bit further south is Tweed River Seafoods at Chinderah. And the fresh seafood shop in Daniel St Caloundra is hard to beat.

Catch it yourself is always the best. You know it's fresh. Eating out, the best I've had is at a pier restaurant at Lakes Entrance in Vic's East Gippsland, sorry can't remember the name.

Well I'm with mark and margaret. The very best seafood and fish is caught close to where you live. one of my new life goals is to learn to fish. The other is to eat fish that I am unfamiliar with. I'm a South Australian that lives happily near Chinderah. The blokes there are really honest fishmongers. They will tell you what is local and fresh. If you don't like it, don't eat it. Without buying in to the food allergy thing, you could possibly be allergic to it. I kept trying to eat kiwifruit and eggplant, but know that I am very allergic to kiwifruit and have a similar initial reaction to eggplant...go figure. There should be no rules in enjoying food. In the words of one of my favourite songwriters (Christine Lavin) It's from a an Album called >Lucky that he can't read my mind.
It goes something like this.... Look at me i'm chewing and I'm not scared Eating sushi is like chewing on your own cheek and sucking down a bucket of tentacled slime. never feel obligated to eat something because someone else says that you should. Stay far away from crap seafood which tragically abounds throughout our supermarkets and lots of the restaurants.
