Australia’s best wine bar is…

Date Posted: 01-02-2010

We’ve swivelled, we’ve smelled, we’ve sipped and we’re in love. Whether it comes from the cool climate regions of our nation’s south, the more temperate northern zones or from as far away as Germany, Italy, France or Argentina, wine is a drink Australians have taken into their hearts. This romance with vino has lead to another great development: wine bars. Moody, wine-obsessed spaces have sprung up all over the nation to satisfy our thirst for the tipple. But which is the best? We’re leaving this one for you to decide…

De Vine wine bar in Clarence Street has the best wine selection and ambience with great hosts. If you can't decide on what wine you want they are always happy to recommend a wonderful choice of wines.

Mille Vini in Surry Hills - it justifies saying 'vino' instead of wine with all it's italian options (plus it's got awesome looking menus!).

Fico on Bourke st, Surry Hills Sydney is a new favourite. Amazing Italian only winelist, small and romantic. Sticky Bar on Campbell st, Surry Hills Sydney is the old favourite. Cosy, fun and the staff are crazy!

This great country has too many good ones to limit a choice to just one. The best wine bar is the one with your friends in it!

The ICEBERGS, overlooking the magnificent BONDI BEACH.
Million dollar views, sitting on the verandah with a glass of red each.
Simple, yet serene
Can't think too many people have seen

Balthazar on the Esplanade in Perth. Although technically a restaurant, they do have a small bar area where you can sit and enjoy their amazing wine list. Possibly the best wine list in Perth! The staff are so knowledgeable you don't need to know anything about wine and if they don't know the answer, the sommelier is always on hand to help out too.

Bacco wine bar in Chifley tower. They also do the most amazing coffee and pastries. Start off here and then head upstairs to Azuma for dinner.

Never glum at the RATTLE N HUM!!!
In the Far North's heat,
their wine's hard to beat.
On the waterfront in Cairns,
many tourists are fans.
Their wood-fried pizzas I adore;
with a versatile wine selection,
a glass or two I'll
order for sure!!!

I absolutely love the Union Bank Wine Bar in Orange, NSW because of its impressive range of cool-climate wines that showcases the best that the Orange region has to offer. The wine bar itself is surprisingly trendy for country NSW, it has a great atmosphere and the food's pretty tasty as well. I think it's an undiscovered gem!

Beverly Hills Hotel,
spirits, reds and whites as well.
A homely place,
for drinking or feeding your face.
A good drop need not cost the earth,
or force you to leave your own turf!
The ambiance is just right,
for anytime- day or night.
We heard Nicole Kidman visited there,
and had mudcake, just for a dare!

Let's be honest, you can't pick just one great wine bar or vineyard for that matter in Australia. And I"m pretty sure that the only way to see for yourself is to take a wine tour. I did one in California when I went to visit the Napa Valley and loved it. I think the same should happen for the Hunter Valley--I mean, why not? Here are some great sites that offer wine tours if y'all are interested: http://www.winecountry.com.au/ and my personal favorite: http://www.isango.com/australia-tours/sydney-tours/hunter-valley-wine-tours
